Finding Yourself

Monday, 27 October 2014

Some days, it's only fitting that I write about subjects relating to my personal life. Today is one of those days..

Most of the time, I'm pretty sure of who I am. (which is more than I can say about a lot of people my age!) But sometimes, I just lose myself. My beliefs suddenly become unclear and I lose sight of where I'm going. Has this happened to you?
Maybe if I were older, this wouldn't ever be an issue. I mean, what is it about older people? They just seem so damn sure of themselves all the time. Perhaps truly knowing who you are just comes with life experience and time.

Today, I wanted to share some of my tips that I think will help some of you who might be going through this identity struggle too!

Let's get started!

1. Love yourself first.
Okay, so this might sound a little cliché, but It's true! I believe knowing who you are and being comfortable in your own skin only comes from being 100% ay-okay with yourself.  That means that its time to stop hating on your flaws and imperfects. Now, repeat after me: Perfection doesn't exist.

2. Have a purpose.
What is it that you love to do? What are you passionate about? For me, it's being creative! It doesn't matter how I do it, just as long as I am always creating something. Figuring out what you love can play such a big part in finding out who you are. If you're not sure what it is exactly that you love to do, then follow my next tip.

3. Discover.
So, how is it that you find your purpose? Just do something- anything! Have as many new experiences as you can. It's okay to be a little scared, that means you're stepping outside of your comfort zone. As you adapt to new environments, your experiences will mould your interests.

I found this quote and It really speaks to me..

"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself." - George Bernard

Perhaps that's just it. We shouldn't worry so much about figuring out who we're meant to be, but rather create the person we actually want to be.

Did this post help you to discover yourself, or do you have any extra tips? Please leave your thoughts below as I'd love to hear them!

I apologise if this post seemed a little disjointed and short, I'm running on limited sleep today! I'll have an exciting post ready for you all on Thursday! Have a fabulous day everyone and i'll see you soon!

10 Things I Love About Me

Thursday, 11 September 2014

Hey Everyone!

My life seems like a bit of a mess these days. In fact, I was starting to feel like the world was against me. A couple of days ago I had a really long think about my life and where I was going. I remember thinking to myself "well, at least I'm happy with who I am." I thought that this was a really strong message and it was one I wanted to share with you all. Although things seem pretty crappy, I chose to focus on being happy and confident with who I am.

I decided to make a list of the things I love about myself. You'd be surprised how wonderful it feels to see look at your list and see all of the amazing qualities about yourself. Today I'm sharing my list with you all in the hopes that you'll take the time to discover things that you love about yourself.

My list:

1. I'm a really good friend. I try to always listen and support my friends, or even tell them when they're being stupid. That's just what friends do!

2. I love that I'm so creative! There's nothing else I'd rather do then paint a landscape or create new quilt blocks!

3. I have amazing hair: It grows fast, it holds a curl and it doesn't get to oily. I always get compliments on my hair smelling really good too!

4. I love to laugh! I used to get teased for laughing at everything but I think its a wonderful quality to have!

5. My eyes are beautiful. I love how they sparkle when the light hits them!

6. I'm a 'glass half full' person, I try to always stay optimistic!

7. I always see the best in others. Even when someone has been really horrible to me, I cant help but see the best in them. Its just part of who I am!

8. I'm a dreamer! I have big goals and I am always striving to achieve them.

9. I'm an empathetic person. When someone cries, I just want to cry with them! I think its a wonderful gift to be able to relate to others on an emotional level.

10. I take the time to appreciate everything. If you’ve ever sent me a message or left a comment, believe me when I say that I honestly appreciated it.  I always try to acknowledge every little bit of kindness in the world.

I've also made a list of what I love about YOU!

1. You support me and my blog. The support I've received has been overwhelming, and I love you all for it!

2. You don't ever judge me, and you only leave me kind words.

3. You continue to read this blog even though you know I'm a complete weirdo!

4. Your blogs make me laugh and they make me cry. You inspire me everyday to work harder on my blog

5. You always have interesting things to say!

6. You are all so talented! The knowledge you all have is just amazing, and I'm thankful that you choose to share your ideas and thoughts with me!

7. You are open with your own struggles and I'm glad I have found others who I can relate to. Its always nice to know you're never alone.

8. I love that you always update me on what's happening in your part of the world!

9. You're courage. It takes a certain kind of person to put yourself out there and become vulnerable to negativity.

10.  You always bring a smile to my face with your lovely comments and messages. To see that you all love what I do just makes my day!

I hope you enjoyed this post, I loved making it! So now I encourage you all to make a list too.. Go on, tell me what you love about you!

Quick little note: Next week I'll be heading off to the Grampians to take a painting class. I'm so excited and yes, I'll be sure to update you all on my trip! Unfortunately I'll be taking the week off from blogging, so you wont be able to expect a new post from me until Monday 22nd of September. Of course, you can follow me on my social media accounts where I'll still be available!

I'll talk to you soon

Things I Wish I Could Tell My Younger Self

Thursday, 4 September 2014

Growing up is one of the most painfully horrifying and unbearably exciting things any of us will ever do. Like anyone else, I’ve made many mistakes; some are ones I wish I could erase from history. If I could do it again, I’d come equipped with more self-respect and a lot more confidence... Maybe even a better sense of fashion too!

Here are some things I'd tell my younger self..

  • Don't give up on your hobbies. If you love to draw and paint, then do it! You'll have an easier time figuring out who you are by doing what you love than being someone you're not.

  • Don't worry so much about popularity and being 'cool', You'll never see these people again anyway.

  • Listen to your friends and family when they say a guy isn't good for you. They know you better than you think they do.

  • Just know that you're going to make mistakes. Remember to consider them lessons, and don't be so hard on yourself.

  • Just say yes. Its okay to do things that seem a little scary, that's how you'll grow.

  • Don't wear those ugly brown pants that you thought were so cool... Ever!

  • Make a better effort to keep connected to old friends. You'll regret it if you let those wonderful people walk out of your life.

  • What other people do and say about you has very little to do with you. It's just a reflection of them.

  • Don't change who you are to suit others. It doesn't matter so much what others think of you. It only matters what you think of yourself.

  • No matter what, everything is going to be alright. :)

What would you say to your younger self if given the chance?
Have a wonderful weekend

Is It Just Me?

Thursday, 21 August 2014

Happy Thursday Everyone!

So I'm just going to come right out and say it. I'm pretty Weird. Its just something I fully accept and I'm happy with it. Now I'm sorry  to burst your bubble but yes, you all are a tad weird too. It's just part of what makes us human. We all have our own little quirks that make us who we are. I say, lets embrace them!

Today, I have compiled a list of things I do that probably no one else does. I thought this would be fun little post and it'll finally allow me to find out if anyone else really does any of these things! I was inspired to create this from reading Kirsty's lovely post on Effortlessly Excessive. I recommend checking her out!

Shall we get started?

1. I turn the volume up to even numbers or multiple's of 5. Eg. if someone puts the volume up to 23, I grab the remote and round it up to 25.

2. Same goes for setting an alarm. I would never set it for 8:58 for example, I would just round up!

3. I cannot stop reading a book on a random page. I only stop once I've reached the end of the chapter.

4. When I go bowling, I always lean either left or right to persuade my ball to go in a particular direction.

5. I almost never try on clothes in the store. I don't know why but I'd rather get home and find out that it doesn't fit than try it on in the first place.

6. I used to pretend that my classroom was my bedroom and I would design the layout I'd want.

7. I used to look at the footpath and pretend that my car is painting a line, and when there is a break for a driveway, I "stop spraying" until the footpath reappears.

8. I always interrupt the microwave before it reaches 00:00 and the sound rings.

9. The things on my desk can't be touching each other.

10. In the car as a child, I always pretended to sleep when we were nearly home so my parents would have to carry me inside.

There you go, those were just some of my strange habits. So now I want to know, Is it just me? Or do you relate to some of these as well? Also, what are some of your strange habits that probably no one else does?

Thanks for reading

The Liebster Award

Wednesday, 30 July 2014

Hey there!

Now you're probably thinking 'Megan, today is Wednesday. why on Earth are you posting?' Well I thought I would add an extra sneaky post this week to celebrate my first month of consistent blogging! (Yay me!)
I thought what better post to do than the Liebster award!

I was so excited to see that I had been nominated not once, but twice! It seemed like a fun little post and a great way to get to know other bloggers!
If you are unfamiliar with this tag post (like I was when I was nominated!) here are the rules:

1. You must link back to the person who nominated you.
2. You have to answer all the questions you were given by the person who nominated you.
3. You must choose 5-11 bloggers who have less than 200 followers, and come up with a new set of 11 questions for them.
4. Let your nominees know they’ve been nominated.

Lets get started!

I was nominated for the Liebster Award by Hannah from Hannah bakes things, as well as Sarah from A bubbly lady. Thankyou ladies!

Hannah's questions:

 1. How did you start blogging?
I've briefly covered this in one of my first posts. Starting a blog was something I had been thinking about doing for about 8 or 9 months. 'Room with a Bloom' was originally meant to be dedicated to interior design. My passions grew and the blog became what it is today. I remember being terrified to actually start because I thought it needed to be perfect. Eventually I realized that it would never be perfect and I just needed to trust that I will become better at writing over time. I hope I've answered this question right!

2. Where do you find your inspiration?
Absolutely everywhere! The smallest things can give me inspiration. I am a Pinterest addict and can spend hours pinning to my hearts desire. I often find great DIY ideas and organisation tips on there. I also get inspired by looking at other blogs- There are some seriously talented and inspirational people in this world!

3. What is your favourite kind of cake?
I'll have to go with Mud cake, Who doesn't love mud cake?

4. What is the best joke you know?

I'm such a sucker for corny jokes!

Q: What did Barack Obama say to Michelle when he proposed?
A: "I don't want to be Obama self."

5. What kind of camera do you use?
Currently I'm just using the camera on my IPhone 5 for taking pictures. Its not ideal but I'm working with the best I have. But don't worry, a good quality camera is at the top of my wish list. Does anyone have any recommendations?

6. What's made you smile today?
Watching the SacconeJoly's newest vlog: Seeing Emilia and Eduardo learn and grow everyday always seems to make me smile!

7. If you could have a super power what would it be?
This was a hard one. I think I'd want to have the power to transport anywhere I wished. There have been so many times that I've been rushing to the train and missed it by seconds. If only I had the power to transport myself onto the train... But then again, if I could transport anywhere, I wouldn't need to catch the train: I could just transport to my destination!

8. What are your favourite kind of posts to write?
My favourite by far are DIY posts, Its just so much fun creating little projects and sharing them with you all!

Like a large percentage of the female population, I too am a huge fan of 'The Notebook'- Makes me cry every time!
I also currently really love 'The heat'- Melissa McCarthy is just so hilarious!

10. What couldn't you live without?
